I am pleased to welcome another author who has agreed to bring his talents to The Chip Wagon. Folks who visit the official Philadelphia Eagles Message Board (AKA TATE) will undoubtedly recognize a poster with the screen name, Justrelax. I am thrilled to have JR as part of the team here at the blog.
We all surely remember how the Andy Reid era began against the Cowboys where Big Red pulled out the onside kick on the opening kickoff. Reid's tenure in Philadelphia was filled with moments like this and you can bet some of his former players had some trickeration in the back of their mind. Seems Andy used psychology in his favor on the opening kickoff in his return to the Linc. JR breaks it down:
Here's a nice piece of trickeration that Reid pulled on us Thursday. On the opening kickoff, KC sends the up man to the left, beyond the numbers.
He starts jumping up and down, and two Eagles react. Hard to fault them. However, this leaves eight guys in coverage (plus the kicker), and only three on the defensive right side.
Can Goode get there, coming from the far right?
Despite the Eagles getting burned on this trick, JR points out that Cary Williams (JR's newest hero) puts forth quite the effort on this. He's circled below as one of the guys who bought hard on the fake.
Below, you will see Cary's route on this play. Lest we forget that KC got nothing on the ensuing drive, so that's a TD saved.
