For all the QB ratings, 7 TD game, 0 INTs, only 1 loss, etc. perhaps the thing that makes me want to say Nick Foles is the next franchise QB more than anything is some of the little things he does on a week-to-week basis. From looking off safeties, to pump fakes, to TD runs. Last week, we saw a few more of these "plays they don't have stats for".
I covered this earlier in the week, but this was a play where Nick had Ertz matched up on Washington on the outside. Washington does a great job in coverage for a LB and undercuts this throw. What looks like an erratic throw is Nick putting the ball in a place only his player can catch it. That's a franchise QB throw:
We've talked about the pump fakes, but check this one. Derek Sarley poined out how the entire OL chop blocked on a pass play. However, Nick looks to be in deep doo-doo. Because he's got 2 defenders bearing down on him, so he pumps:
Both defenders jump in unison and slow the rush:
Foles steps up and Celek comes open. That's a savvy franchise QB play:
Finally, this really doesn't get old. For all the talk about how Nick Foles couldn't run this offense during the offseason and even during the season. He continues to do whatever it takes to make plays for this football team. Inside zone read:
Honestly if you told me 3 months ago that that option would have been viable, I never would have believed you. And while you've all seen that I am skeptical of running that play in certain situations with Foles...it's still a great call to keep the defense honest.
