We'll finish the Top 25 series with the signature plays of Lesean McCoy's record-breaking season and the Philadelphia Eagles 2013 season. I don't think many fans will disagree that the Snow Bowl was the funnest game we've witnessed in recent memory so it's only fitting that we end the Top 25 with these two plays.
To end the series we go back to the Eagles bread and butter play (Note my colleague David is putting together a great series on the Inside Zone). Here we'll highlight beautiful execution of the inside zone. The key to beating the Detroit Lions is handling their front four and most notably their interior D-Line featuring Suh and Fairley. This play is designed to combo block Suh and Fairley off the snap with Peters and Celek taking on the Wide-9 edge rushers:
Here they get the strong doubles. Check out Kelce and Mathis blow Nick Fairley off the line. Kelce and Lane Johnson will now slide off their doubles and take on the second-level linebackers #54 and #55 respectively:
Beautiful execution as you see every man in the box is accounted for with an Eagles blocker. McCoy hits the hole:
The result is what is likely a deep safety's biggest nightmare; having to tackle Lesean McCoy in the open field as the last line of defense:
and he fails to do so:
Here it is:
Same play a little later. Here the Eagles will attempt combo blocks on both guys:
Once on Fairley, Mathis will try and slip off to take out #54 at the second level. Unfortunately, Mathis falls down:
But #54 make a huge mistake and overpursues wide leaving McCoy a nice hole to run through:
Time to pour one out for a long-time Eagle and now Carolina Panther, Jason Avant as he makes a devastating block downfield clearing the way for McCoy's TD:
TD McCoy. Here's how it looked:
There you have it, I hope you enjoyed the series! Let me know if I missed some. Here's to doing 50 next year!!
